Oh, what a relief

"Oh, syukur, alhamdullillah, tak payahlah lagi I kena tawaf keliling Bandar Utama baru sampai ke rumah. ". The Selangor State government has finally decided to acquire Bandar Utama City Corporation (BUCC) land to allow the public to continue using it. While the process of acquiring the land was under way, the state will work to keep Jalan Tanjung open as its closure will result in only more traffic congestion in that area. The road will be expanded from the current two lanes to three lanes with two entries and one exit from Jalan Persiaran Tropicana to Lebuh Bandar Utama. There has also been a discussion with the developers whose residents utilise the road and the developers concerned will be asked to finance the building of the road. The developers include Tropicana Golf & Country Resort, developer Dijaya Corporation Bhd, Sunway City Bhd dan Selangor Development Corporation.

When responding to the announcement, vice-president of the Tropicana Residents Association, who happens to be my neighbour said that "he, on behalf of the residents are very happy and grateful to the MB for his decision. In fact, this is what we have been asking for - acquire the land and open the road for public usage". There were altogether about 21,000 residents who signed a petition urging the state and Petaling Jaya City Council to stop the road closure by BUCC and to instead make it a public road. Motorists from various housing estates in the vicinity use the road to access Lebuh Bandar Utama, Jalan Tropicana and the New Klang Valley Expressway. BUCC had in 1993 signed an agreement allowing Dijaya to use the land temporarily to access areas for Tropicana development. It decided to close it after 12 years as the roads have seen heavy traffic flow from the areas of Kota Damansara, Tropicana and Sunway Damansara.
